Terry Gernstein graduated from Purdue University in 1964 with a BSME, from the University of Tennessee with an MSME in 1968 and from American University in 1972 with a JD.
He practiced patent law from 1972 until his retirement in 2010. He also taught engineering courses at Pont Park and Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh, PA, and in 1989 was a guest lecturer for the Patent and Trademark Society and for a course in entrepreneurship at the University of Virginia.
Terry has published papers entitled “Fluid Flow in Extended Surfaces with Change of Phase” (MS thesis) and “Anatomy of a Design Patent” innovation, the journal of the Industrial Design Society of America, 1989.
He has raised two sons and currently resides in McLean, VA with his wife Gloria.
